A Single Advertisement - 1437 Words

A single advertisement can have hundreds of effects on mankind every day without anybody noticing. It gives the indication that life is not whole until the one last item is acquired. Then one will be considered cool and accepted in today’s society. Many believe once they hit their â€Å"mid-life crisis.† The mid-life crisis hits around age 35 to 40 when men realize they are not fitting in as much as he once did. Men’s lives have significantly changed and now he has money to buy things he was not able to before. Because his financial status is finally in the black, he is able to pick up his head from the computer desk and look around. Things making men look more â€Å"stylish† and â€Å"hip† in today’s society. Advertisers seem to hit this hard. They use cynicism to make the men going through their crisis believe if they get the object of their desire, they will be the coolest guy on the block. This advertisement portrays the type of man that every man wants to be as well as the type of woman every man wants to be with; really hitting the mid-life crisis bone hard. He’s a middle aged man that obviously has stayed in shape his whole life. Most middle-aged men are married with kids and a little gut hanging over their belt. When the men reading this ad see a man like David Beckham, they start questioning if they look like that to other women. In the process, the ad actually gives an unintended effect to destroy self-esteem.
